释义 | The author talks about [says]that he? [she]shows off when his some poems were published at the first time in paragraph 17 to 18. He is lack self-restrained. There are six dashes in this section, and two used in the one sentence. For example, “for we know very well—I certainly know—that if we’d been that lucky lady”. I don’t understand why use dash in here. Obviously, the first dash front and back both are same meaning. Another question is the sentence “I’ll lay my cards right on the table and confess”, it is hard to understand. In my part, sometimes we should flaunt, not show off. When we have a great success, we can share the joy with friends or stranger. This is a way to shout our talents or triumphs to the word. Though, essentially, exulting and showing off are the same. Exulting is filled with admiration or astonishment. Showoffs are hated by other people. It is really difficult to live in this city. Some people like you, someone not. We could not control people’s emotion[feelings]; however, we cannot live lonely. Do we what we want.? ? |
