释义 | I have some questions in part 23. For one thing, there is a sentence “it’s saying...” Why the author uses “it” in here? What does “it” stands for? Or in fact “it” has no meaning at all? What puzzles me more is why uses present tense in here other than past tense? Is it a fixed sentence style? For another, what is the meaning of the following sentence? For the former questions, I just take it as a quote, which uses like “as an old saying goes”. For the latter one, it is clear that you should make present tense if my former guess is right. Next, the author mentions the “I think” five times. Why does she use the some words? What does she would like to express? A series of “I think” either reflecting the strong feeling of the writer or displaying some examples in life what we usually think normal. It pays to note the last one. To our surprise, the author illustrates her real purpose that from time to time the behaviors of showing off are bearable. Perhaps the proper show off has been an aspect of life. |
