王贞平（Wang Zhenping） ，四川江津人，文史大家王利器先生公子。1983年进入美国普林斯顿大学，师从杜希德先生攻读博士学位。毕业后，任教于新加坡南洋理工大学教育学院，为准教授。曾任日本关西大学COE客座教授（2008年12月-2009年2月）。著有《汉唐中日关系论》（文津出版社，1997）。

王贞平是中国古代史研究领域的专家，在唐代外交制度史、对外经济贸易史、中日关系史等方面有很高的造诣，是国际上有较高影响力的学者。他的英文专著《汉唐中日关系史》出版后，引起学界广泛关注。包括美国《哈佛大学亚洲学志》、《美国历史评论》、伦敦大学《亚非学院纪要》、日本《日本学志》、《日本时报》、加拿大《国际历史评论》在内的美、英、日、学术杂志报刊共发表了九篇书评，给以很高的评价。他先后担任美国普林斯顿大学《东亚图书馆杂志》主编，印度尼赫鲁大学《中古史杂志》顾问、日本关西大学《东亚文化交流研究杂志》顾问。数次赴日本关西大学发表主题讲演，担任客座教授。他在2009年刚刚完成另外一部英文著作《多极亚洲中的唐代中国》（共六百余页，将由美国夏威夷大学出版），全面探讨唐代的外交关系。王贞平被列入美国《当代作者》一书中，是当今活跃在美国、日本学界的引人注目的学者。
