自1996年12月出世后就致力于外文刊物的创办和外文活动的组织。

997年1月社刊《Pioneer》创刊。 1998年10月推出系列英语学习资料卡片《轻轻松松学外语》。

1999年4月举办首届“万事达”厦门大学外语节。

1999年12月成功接待香港中文大学学生代表团。

2000年11月与外教合作共建反烟草的网站

2000年12月成功接待美国德克萨斯州大学学生代表团。

每年12月积极参加“一二九”社团活动月活动。

每年9月为9.8贸洽会推荐优秀英语人才。

每学期举办5-7次有关英语学习的讲座。

自成立连续组织并参加了五届厦门大学学生校园英文演讲比赛，并于2000年与《中国日报》成功合作举办了首届“21世纪杯”厦门大学学生英文演讲比赛。

2001年厦门大学，厦门大学外文学院将与《中国日报》再度联手，举办全省大学生英文演讲比赛。

五年来学社社团人数大大增加，现有社员600余人，已成为全校最大的学社之一。

2010年10月获得厦门大学学生社团2009-2010年度精品社团。

社团简介

厦门大学学生外文学社（Foreign Language Society of XMU)于1996年12月成立，是由厦门大学外国语言文学系发起的，并由团委和外文系团委领导的面向全校的学生学术性团体。学社的宗旨在于立足基础外语，努力培养同学们的外文听说能力，营造全校外语学习的良好环境，增强同学们的外语运用能力及水平。学社自成立以来，先后在迎香港回归，庆"一二九"期间 组织了数次大型校园英文演讲比赛，多次成为全校师生的焦点；同时，学社还不定期邀请专家教授开办讲座、沙龙，已形成传统的每年迎新英文讲座，让厦大人受益匪浅；学社还举办过书展、观看录像等活动。外文学社还办过中英文翻译大赛、英语电影配音大赛、校园中文演讲及英文表演大赛、英文之夜等，影响甚大。

学社设理事会为组织机构，社长为最高领导，负责学社工作，下设多位理事，共同负责学社各项活动的开展。

外文学社在社团部的大家庭中尚是年轻的团体，但我们相信，经过我们的不懈努力，学社会在不断地完善中走向更灿烂的明天！

Students’ForeignLanguage Society of Xiamen Universityis anacademicclub for all the students at school, which was establishedinDecember 1996. It was sponsoredby the ForeignLanguage and LiteratureDepartment ofXiamen University and under the leadership of the Communist Youth League of Xiamen University and the Communist Youth Leaguein theDepartment of Foreign Languages.Society's mission is that based on thebasis of foreign languages, we’ll try our best to help studentstodevelopforeign language listening and speaking ability, so as to create a favorable environment of learning foreign languages in school and enhance students’ abilities andlevels of using foreign language.

Since its inception,society hasorganized severallarge-scaleCampus Englishspeech contest during thecelebration of the returning of Hong Kong and celebration of"December Ninth", and has becomethe focus ofmany teachers and students; furthermore, we also invite experts andProfessors to offerlectures of learning English and hold English Sharon from time to time. This has formedthe traditionalseminars in every yearorientation, so that studentsbenefit fromthem a lot; Societyalsoheldbook exhibition andwatching thevideosand other activities.ForeignLanguage Societyhas alsoheld thecontestofEnglish translation, English film dubbingcontest, the campus Chineseand Englishspeechcontests, and thenight of English. The influence is really big in the school.

Societyestablishedthe Councilfor theorganization. Presidentas the supremeleader, is responsible for work of holding activities, besides,a number ofmembers is collectively responsible forcarrying outthe activities ofSociety.

In thecommunity family,ForeignLanguage Societyis stilla younggroup. But we believe, with ourunremitting efforts, theschoolcommunitywill have a moresplendid tomorrow with continually improving!
