| 释义 | The author begins to talk about another kind of showoff in paragraph 12. This kind of showoff goes after security, What they do relates to their thinking. The author uses the quotation of her friend to explain why these sympathetic showoffs are so fun of showing off. They are always worry about being forgotten. They don’t like being ignored which will make them unhappy. It’s totally opposite that some folks achieve great things and nonetheless do not show it off. “Now that’s impressive” is an independent paragraph which seems rather short as a paragraph. The same as paragraph 16. Paragraph 15 gives an example to deep the expression of folks who achieve great things without showing off. The author regards it highly ——“with admiration, with awe, with astonishment”，and calls it “self-restraint”. The words what I learned from paragraph 12 to paragraph 16 are “folks”，“intimately”，“senate”，“awe”. “the quiet mother of four” are rather difficult to understand for Chinese students. Is that the meaning of four-year old mother or four mothers? As teacher said in class, we have to pick it up once we meet these native forms. |
