释义 | I read paragraph9 there is a phrase ‘the weasel claim’ which attracts me. The word ‘weasel’ is a animal name which will suck out the inside of an egg, leaving it to appear intact to the casual observer. So I think it is a noun. but the word ‘claim’ behind it is also noun. We know two nouns can not stay together. It is conceivable that here the word ‘weasel’ is an adjective. I have take an interest in first sentence”a weasel word is a modifier” that almost contradict the claim that is made”. As is know to all, advertising claims say something about the product that is true. But why the weasel claim is welcomed by advertisers. In my opinion, advertisers think everything is not absolute, if the advertising is too absolute, consumers will doubt the truth of products. They find the quality is much greater difference from what the advertising said after they use the products. Now I give an example to explain this claim”only half the price of many color sets” it means this television set is not the cheapest but cheaper. It can avoid to be complained. In paragraph 10, the meaning of phrase” water is wet” is easy for me to understand. It is fairly well-know that ‘water is wet’ claims say something true about the products, but it is probable less well-know that not a real advantage over the competition. So I think the effect of this kind of claim leaves much to be desired. For example ‘Rheingold: the natural beer’ consumer will think that this beer likes most of the other beer not special, because all of the beer made from grains and water。 After I read paragraph 11, I think the ‘so what’ claim is not the good claim. because this claim gives no real advantage to the product though it is made that is true. So this kind of claim is similar to the “water is wet” claim. I think there are large different between ‘water is wet’ and ‘so what’ claims. First, .it is fairly well- know that the Wet claims say something about the product that is true for any brand in that product category. But it is probable less well=know that not a real advantage over the competition. So I think the effect of this kind of claim leaves much to be desired. ‘so what’ claims :this claim always compare to other products. But avoid saying the effect of product. People will ask ‘so what’. I think this claim use exaggerate skill |
