释义 | I have some questions in the first sentence. Usually we use “as we know” to express “there is something everybody knows”. But the first word is “for”, does it means “as” in these sentence? (sentences) Or means” in terms of”? Then the author continues to praise the woman’s behavior in accord to state the behavior of common people. Someone is so eager to indicate his proud that he’ll put the card right. The word “right” is deeply to describe the psychology of showoffs. As the author said, then he’ll try to mention it to everyone even though he’d never known. The time phrase “for months and months” and place phrase “local” “long distance” both emphasize the desire. However, this is not a stop (conclusion). The author states ahead. It is astonished that the showoffs will tell their triumph to strangers who just want to know the time or directions on the street even if it don’t related to their success at all. And the interesting thing is that they’ll enlighten them, which means whether you understand or not, you have to leave some good words about their achievements. So showoffs do their best to work it into the conversation even detain them. This is true but sounds so unbelievable. We can remember that there are so many excuses such as I told you just because I want (wanted) to share with you. At last, it’s noted that “awhile” that we usually replace it with a while puzzled me. |
