56岁的谢里丹可谓是有着丰富的人生经历，曾与亚洲某大型商业公司合作过多年。在从事导演和制片行业之后，在都柏林建立了一家属于自己的名位“地狱厨子”制片公司。进入八十年代，带着一家老小搬到美国纽约居住。十年后，又举家回迁爱尔兰。并于去年买下了自己非常喜爱的一匹比赛用种马。同时，他热爱的电影事业也一直陪伴着他生活的每一天。在好莱坞影坛，称得上名不见经传的谢里丹虽没有什么令人们眼前一亮的大制作，但他的作品却都独树一帜，尤其是对故事的把握相当据感染力。也曾受到不少影迷们的喜爱。

1997年的《拳击手》(Boxer)和2002年《在美国》(In America)都给人们留下了深刻的印象。如今，又有新片问世的谢里丹已经逐渐忙碌起来，在他的工作表中，明年已经安排了两部电影由自己亲自执导筒。
