作为一队地下说唱组合，Dilated People在The Platform发行前，就已经在西岸的地下圈吸引了不少眼球。不仅仅是因为具有Evidance或Rakaa这样富有创造力的MC，最让所有团队羡慕的是他们拥有世界一流水平的DJ，出自唱盘主义豪华团体Beat Junkies的Babu。人们也因此乐于把他们和另一队地下团体Jurassic 5相比较，对应的，后者拥有同样出色的DJ Cut Chemist。2000年这张处子作是在期盼中发行，Rakaa解释到专辑名中所谓的“平台”就是他们才艺的交汇点，另一层意义则代表未来事业的基石。（转载自《嘻哈圣经》）

Dilated Peoples西海岸地下名团，成立于1992年，成员为DJ Babu，Evidence和Rakaa Iriscience。 1999年Dilated Peoples就被主流唱片公司Capitol看中，2000年Dilated Peoples在Capitol发行了他们的首张专辑The Platform，这张专辑里没有gangsta，没有女人，没有毒品，Dilated Peoples试图让一切回到根源，事实上Dilated Peoples的确做到了。除此之外，Capitol巨大的感召力也帮了他们不小的忙，Dilated Peoples在自己的首张专辑中就邀请到了B-Real和Aceyalone等西海岸传奇巨星，在Capitol和众多明星的帮助下，这张The Platform一度排在Billboard 200的74位，这个成绩对于一个地下团体来说已经相当不容易了。2001年Dilated Peoples趁热打铁发行了他们的第2张专辑Expansion Team，这是歌迷眼中Dilated Peoples的最佳专辑，这一次Dilated Peoples找来了更多的明星，DJ Premier，Da Beatminerz，?uestlove，The Alchemist等超级制作人加上Guru，Black Thought，Defari等大师级MC，Expansion Team真是想不大卖都难，Billboard 200 当年排列到第36位，Dilated Peoples是全球名团。
