词条 | Unit 2 Human Behavior 4 |
释义 | In paragraph ten and eleven, the sentence is so wonderful to describe something about narcissistic showoffs. Three words are used very good, they are“nonstop, brag and dance”, and the narcissistic showoffs even quote Homer in Greek, they do their utmost to draw others’ attention to star the centre of attention. The following sentence“they will even go stand on their head if attention should flag” is difficult to interpret. So I look flag up and know here it is a verb which means decline in energy, activity, interest, etc. and “go stand on their head” is an informal structure meaning “go to stand on their head”. After finish the job, I understand the sentence. When I skim the paragraph eleven, a unfamiliar phrase goes into my eye, it is“brooding darkly”, brooding means nervous to contemplative, it is a inner state to show the showoffs who are unhappy at that time. I hate the behavior of narcissistic showoffs, because when they are not in the center of every bunch, they have said it is a superficial topic then leaves. In my opinion, excessive show off activity will do harm to their relationships. |
