释义 | Writing for unit 2 9 This section only has one paragraph, in which the author introduces the competitive showoffs emphatically. The word “bunch” as a noun has four meanings. The first meaning is a group of things growing close together; a cluster or clump or a group of like items or individuals gathered or placed together. The second meaning is informal a group of people usually having a common interest or association. The third meaning is informal a considerable number or amount; a lot. The last meaning is a small lump or swelling; a bump. In my opinion, in this article, the word’s meaning is similar the third one, and every bunch means all the people. The word “outshine” in the second sentence means attract more attention and praise than others. This sentence delineates three characteristics of the competitive showoffs’. These characteristics are more, better, and deeper. After each of the three words, the author uses a rule to describe what more does the showoffs have, what better and deeper the showoffs are. The last sentence is a very long sentence, and is an example for the competitive showoffs’ behavior. “Interrupt to relate” presents that, the showoff shows himself is so on edge. In the sentence the author a good sentence pattern “not only… but also”. At the last two lines, the author uses two rules. “Obviously much more beloved” between the rules represents the showoff’s words are so nauseous. Just a birthday present, they also want to show off. |
