NCAA分类按照各校的实力和体育上的投入又分成第一、第二和第三级别, 分别叫Division I, II 和 III. 第一级别(Division I)对学校要求更高，必须支持7支以上的男子和女子球队(或者6支男子队伍和8支女子队伍),另外每年的比赛场次(要和多少同级别的球队比赛)也有规定。 举例说明第一级别又分Division I-A 和 Division I-AA. Division I-A橄榄球队的学校有着更细的要求，比如球队每场比赛的上座率平均要超过15,000人，这里的上座率可以是实际上座率，也可以只看球票销售的数字。Division I-AA没有这些要求。 |
