生平简介

生于伊利诺斯州芝加哥。1915年进入电影界，次年至1921年为启斯东公司拍片，主演有《别变换丈夫》、《男性与女性》、《阿纳托尔案件》等表现当时女性生活的影片。后进入派拉蒙公司。1927年成立了自己的影片公司，并主演了《索雅的爱情》。进入30年代主要在百老汇等演出舞台剧。1950年以《日落大道/红楼金粉》获得奥斯卡最佳女主角提名。其它主要影片还有《骚寡妇》、《莫负青春》、《空中乐曲》、《三人卧室》、《航空港七五》等。1983年4月去世。
