剧情介绍

版本一

海湾战争结束了，三个士兵盘算回家发财去。少校阿奇·盖茨还有两周时间就要退役；军士特洛伊·巴洛刚做父亲；他们的头儿埃尔金则正从底特律去休他的四个月的假期。三个士兵受命去夺回被萨达姆.侯塞因从科威特窃取的大量黄金，而且不能惹任何麻烦。在他们去执行任务的途中，目睹了战争留下的满目疮痍。

布什总统怂恿伊拉克市民去推翻萨达姆，并保证美国政府将大力提供支持，但当有人真的行动起来时，等待他们的只有无助的死亡。 面对伊拉克所发生的的真实的一切，他们面临了一场人性的挑战，士兵们不得不反思，自己究竟是谁？正在做什么？

版本二

本片的故事其实从波斯湾战争结束才开始。四名美军因为从伊拉克战俘的屁眼中发现了一张萨达姆秘密碉堡的地图，决定偷偷到碉堡夺取一批抢夺自科威特的黄金，只要此举得手，退伍回国就可以高枕无忧。他们本来以为此行轻而易举，不料各种意外接踵而至。当他们来到碉堡后发现萨达姆的军队根本就不管他们的所作所为，只要不理会当地的平民他们可以为所欲为，当他们找到黄金准备运走后发现萨达姆的军队开始屠杀平民，少校盖茨生出怜悯之心，于其他三人救走平民，但回去途中被萨达姆军队摧毁交通工具，盖茨等三人被当地反抗军救走，而troy被萨达姆军队绑走，盖茨等人与平民中人合作回到碉堡找回troy，并决定护送这些平民去伊朗的难民营，路上康纳德被萨军枪杀，而troy也因为中弹而导致要肺部放气，来到伊朗边界时美军发现了他们的举动，上校宣布逮捕他们3人，并不让平民离开，为了让平民来到难民营，3人以黄金为条件，希望上校能让平民去到难民营。最后3人光荣退役，让其3人免遭军事法庭起诉，这一切都归功于爱德安娜的报导。最后3人都有各自的工作！

本片用玩笑嘲讽的口吻和夺宝冒险动作片的包装来检讨波斯湾战争，把好莱坞主流片拍出了另类趣味。本片对美伊双方在这场战争所扮演的角色作了相当深入而有趣的分析和批判，四名主角的个性亦塑造得鲜明有趣。在镜头和音响处理上本片还有一大特色，便是将“子弹穿肠过”的威力十分形象化地呈现在银幕上。

这个故事原可拍成主题严肃的战争冒险片，但导演戴维罗素坚持自己的独到见解，以不露痕迹的高明手法，让观众看不到沉重使命，反倒是运用大量动作场面、尖锐的嘲讽笑点、夸张的桥段，创造出一种属于新世代的动作喜剧。罗素的剧本很不平凡，他藉由四人至陌生国家作战，历经深入沙漠寻宝的冒险过程，才让他们了解到每只枪管的背后都存在另一个人的生命，进而尊重这场战争对当地人民的意义。戴维的故事透过这四个人的观点，粉碎美军的战争的态度，并阐述了他们在旅程中，对战争的崇高使命由忽略转为了解的过程。

导演表示，片中的大部份情节几乎都是真实故事改编，海珊从科亏特手中偷得黄金一事也非捏造。他认为这会是一个很有趣的故事背景，让这些在战场上没机会表现的军人，自辟战场，只为寻宝回家过好日子。同时发展出令人省思、娱乐效果并重，剧情十足的动作战争片。

Conrad Vig: Lord knows what kind of vermin live in the butt of a Dune Coon.

Sgt. Troy Barlow: He's all right, man. He's from a group home in Dallas. He's got no high school.

Conrad Vig: Don't tell people that.

Chief Elgin: I don't careif he's from Johannesburg. I don't want to hear Dune Coon or Sand Nigger from him or anybody else.

Conrad Vig: Captain uses those terms.

Sgt. Troy Barlow: That's not the point, Conrad. The point is that Towel Head and Camel Jockey are perfectly good substitutes.

Chief Elgin: Exactly!

Archie Gates: Load the people into the Humvee!

Troy Barlow: There's no room!

Archie Gates: Make room!

Troy Barlow: Whatever happened to necessity?

Archie Gates: It just changed!
