梅瑟尔德斯·麦坎布晨奇(Mercedes McCambridge)1918年3月17日生于伊利诺伊州，芒德兰学院毕业。学习期间已开始在广播电台演出节目，很快就成为美国广受瞩目和尊敬的广播员之一。40年代在百老汇演出舞台剧，获得成功。1949年登上银幕，在处女作《当代奸雄》中出演配角，一举荣获22届奥斯卡最佳女配角金像奖。她演出的影片主要有《巨人》、《战地春梦》、《慢跑回家》、《九十九个女人》、《六月花上一只鸦》、《国际机场1979》等。
