亨利·普塞尔，Henry Purcell(1659-1695) 英国。生于1659年伦敦，逝世于1695年11月21日伦敦。英国普塞尔家族自1620年开始有150年的音乐家历史，先后四代都在宫廷担任重要的音乐师，其中第二代的掌子亨利是最有名的一位。因为亨利他的音乐天才卓越所以英国人就以他的家族姓普塞尔作为他的名子。 他的父亲和叔叔都是伦敦西敏市大教堂著名乐师，五岁丧父便继承给叔叔。十岁起在伦敦皇家教堂担任合唱团员，并随一名管风琴师学管风琴。二十岁继承老师职务任西敏寺大教堂管风琴师，同时推出很多作品，对戏剧和教堂音乐多所贡献。直到1695逝世。

十一岁就做乐曲在皇家教堂演出，十四岁担任管理及修理皇家乐器之职，因而得到许多音乐的知识与修养，并为皇家乐队做了多首进行曲也是詹姆士二世御前大键琴师。二十岁继承老师的职务担任西敏寺大教堂管风琴师，同时推出很多作品，对于戏剧和教堂音乐多所贡献。直到1695逝世，享年36岁。死后葬于西敏寺他生前所弹奏的管风琴底下。

普塞尔有生之年一直被民众所欣赏与爱戴，可是死后他的名声和音乐每况愈下。英国的爱乐者开始偏好德国人的作品，却忽略了自己的作曲家。十九世纪时，有些普塞尔的作品被印制出版，但多半是经过了修改，他大胆的合声和不同凡响的旋律都被修改过，很多合唱曲甚至被重新配置和声，更糟糕的是有许多被演奏的作品是他最差的创作，于是被误解为一个沉闷无趣的作曲家。

1876年普塞尔协会(Purcell Soceity)终于开始有计划的将他的作品以原谱出版。普塞尔全集的最后一部，第32部，在1962年出版，也因此他的 歌曲和室内乐才开始逐渐地在被人演唱、演奏甚至于灌录成唱片。
