词条 | showing off 17-18 |
释义 | In paragraph 17, writer uses an interesting fix phrase “work in” to describe that everybody will undoubtedly quote our accomplishment into our conversation; if everyone were her. Also he tells us the story happened when his own poem were published in early period of live. Then he adopted all kinds of means to proclaim his accomplishment. Even caught the stranger to show off how successful he is. Towards his whole story, writer employs “detrain” to express his narcissistic and proud. Whereas he stopped to do this childish practice after he upgraded the awareness of showing off. As the saying goes; there is no rose without any thorns. An innocent and immature man will easy addicted to showing off, writer who always blame showoffs has no exception. After that, the word “confess” makes me to have a chain reaction to associate with the word which has almost the same meaning. I try to find the differences between confess and acknowledge. According to the explanation of dictionary, I get the answer---confess means to admit to a fault or a crime, and acknowledge means to accept something and be prepared to admit it. Although they seems to have the same meaning in Chinese consideration, but we can distinguish them by commendatory and derogatory sense. Besides, acknowledge is such a behavior that people need to remember something first, then they can decide if it would be accepted. By contract, confess is a practice that a man makes a clean breast of fault. Such instance can be quoted indefinitely, whereas this will suffice. We can recall our behavior naturally. To be frank, I did the same practice when I am young. At that time, I never worried about people who laughed at me, even looked upon me. Only I cared about is to find praise in my own way. Although I may still choose this childish way to achieve my goal, I will practice it through a connotative method. |
