释义 | "Showoff" comes from the phrase "show off". I find that English words are sometimes lazy enough. Every English word doesn’t belong to English itself, but from other language. Some are produced like this ——put two words together. Another example is "outshine" in the second sentence. I think there is imagery in this sentence: "be the best of every bunch". "bunch" means cluster in English. Actually, it means "a group of people" I guess. The third sentence describe the advantages of the outshined showoffs have. The better education, financial conditions and higher quality of lives. When I was concerned, it is clear to see that children are easy to be competitive showoffs. When we were born, we cried for air and then longed for "obviously much more beloved". Where exists the "showoffs", where there are incentives which lead to the ongoing showing off even there's no such kind of person in this word. It's rather difficult to say who is the first person to show off or the "showing off" just comes from the Pandora's box or it's just human nature only can be diminished but not eliminate. Anyhow, competitive showoffs are much better than narcissistic showoffs as far as I know. |
