| 释义 | Writing for unit 2 In the first line of the paragraph 12, the “types” means “members of an indicated class or variety of people.” After the word “because”, there is a comma, in my opinion, after “because” is the reason of the insecure showoffs show off. But why did the author use a comma after “because”? After I hard thinking, I find the reason of the insecure showoffs show off is “how will they know that I’m good unless I tell them about it” which is said by his one close friend. In the last sentence of this paragraph, the author uses the rules again. The sentence “I’m smart, I’m a fine human being” between two rules represents which messages do the showoffs need to use many different techniques to talk about. In paragraph 13, the author uses three “sometimes” to explain three kinds’ showoffs. Someone wants to get cheers, but they are not entitled. Someone can get the praise. Someone doesn’t like to show off although he has achieved great things. Paragraph 14 just has one sentence “now that’s impressive”. Here “that” refers to the previous sentence “sometimes folks achieve great things and nonetheless do not show off about it.” In the 15th paragraph, the “four” in the first line means the mother has four children. This paragraph also has two dashes, the words which are used diagonal words is in order to show the lady’s virtue. The last paragraph just has one sentence. The word “self-restraint” means control oneself. This is the author’s exclamation. He found there are too little people has this virtue around the world. |
