释义 | A sentence “they talk nonstop, they brag, they dance, they ……” here confused me to some extent. Generally, we‘d like to say that they are talking nonstop, they are bragging and so forth. This sort of expression in my eyes is a noun adds a verb. Is this a new style of written? How to understand its grammar? At least, to me I didn’t say or write a sentence in this way. When I nearly interpreted this whole sentence, I noticed “if attention should flag”. Although I couldn’t know why the author use “should” here, if I were him, I will choose “was” instead of “should”. I can’t give any reasons for why I prefer to this word. Maybe it is just my intuition like the author. The eleventh passage gave us a concrete example to show what a narcissistic man is. After I finished read it, I felt a little comical about it. To this kind people, they couldn’t accept others got the attentions which reside in them originally. However, although they didn’t competed with other people like competitive ones, they are immersed in their own worlds and admired themselves. In the last sentence of this passage, the showoff said others’ talking is superficial not like his. That’s obvious ridicule. But from another angle, we can find the narrator is deeply self-loved. Maybe that’s the major characteristic of narcissistic person, I guess. |
