释义 | “Ever” was so striking in the sentence which we couldn’t neglect. “Striking” here didn’t means how well “ever” was used. I just thought it has no meaning or necessity to appear. Finally, I saw it as an adornment without any real meaning. It concluded that today’s workers paid more attention to the life quality not only focused on survival condition from the first sentence. It seemed to me that life quality improving might be one of the meanings about work which had mentioned by the author in former passages. The phenomenon that more money was spent in consuming nowadays could be the evidence to some degree. “Ever-changing”, a compound new phrase, which probably means change from time to time or alter frequently. That was just my assumption which according to the whole meaning of this sentence, because I couldn’t find any explanations about this phrase from the dictionary or any other places. In my mind, “workforce” might refer to “labor”, while “labor” was an uncountable noun. Whether it means we could identify “workforce” an uncountable noun too which the same with “labor”? In order to cope with this question, I resorted to some reference. And yes, the same to my thought, it is the very uncountable word. Then, another problem came out that is why the writer put an “a” in front of “workforce”? From the common sense, the word should be an accountable one if it can be account. Obviously, that’s contradictory. What is the correct understanding about this situation? |
