释义 | Writing 12 I find I still have sorts of questions about paragraph 23. The most attractive thing for me is “taking a bow”. I know “taking a bow” is a manner that we show our response and thanks after doing a performance. Why does the author put the phrase into the sentence? I glance over the whole sentence; I discover the subject is “I”. Does “I” here refer in particular to the author? I don’t think so. It occurs to me that the main idea about the paragraph is exulting. Therefore, I think the second sentence which that includes “taking a bow” is a detailed explanation of the first sentence. Then in my view, “taking a bow” means anyone who is exulting and eager to show off never feels shy. What’s more, after the acceptable showing off, they would like to get some response responses and praise praises ,so they take a bow. I continue reading to read There comes anther doubt. Why does the writer use “we” then apply “you” instead? In general, writers usually use “we” in order to keep step with readers. So I think the function of “we” is this. The author thinks that not all the readers have published poems. As a result, she uses “you” in order to avoid misunderstanding. As a matter of fact, I consider that “we” and “you” is the same thing in the sentence. When it comes to the sentence “then we’re allowed, from time to time, to exult”. I quickly appeal to it that is divided into three parts by two commas. Why does the author separate the complete sentence into some small parts? In my opinion, maybe the writer wants to emphasis the phrase “from time to time”, I think she would like to express that everyone will be accepted by others when they are the time, the occasion and the quit of exulting. It is easy to know the normal sentence is “then I think we’re allowed to exult from time to time”. |
