This afternoon,I read the passages from 1 to 8 of unit 6 very clearly.The article is mainly talk about advertising claim ,which is so familiar with us.We can get the imformation about the products and services from advertising claim.In the first paragraph, “These naïve inhabitants of consumerland” interested me.The author uses the vivid words in order to modify those costumers .In my mind,another word “mass” means there are a lot of consuming people. “there [their] own purchases” points when they shop.

The passage2 mainly talk [talks] about well-designed advertising campaign has dramatic effects. “advertiser [Advertiser] ” here indicates the agency of the advertisement. “they [They] know better” means they understand the whole process of creating the advertisement.They know more clear [clearly] than other consumer [consumers] . “few people admit to being greatly influenced by ads”,here, “few people” indicates the people who are naïve inhabitants of consumerland.Then the author wanted [wants] to sum up that advertisement influences people below the level of conscious awareness.In the last sentence,the author use “all” to instead [replace] the people who may laughs at ,or belittles.

In the third passage,the author emphasizes that a person [add who is] unaware of advertising’s influence on him is precisely the one most valuerable to the adman’s attack. “the adman”means the person who creats the ad which presents the products.

From the forth passage to [add the] eighth passage . It is assessed [assesses] few of  [many] the “claim” in the advertisings is downright lies.But in my opinion, the appeal of advertising to buying motives can have both negative and positive effects. Consumers may be convinced to buy a product of poor quality or high price because of an advertisement. And I really believe that the “claim” is a [an] essential point. Sometimes advertising is intentionally misleading.As the quality of products is not as good as the advertisings` claim. In addtion, people should not buy something only according to the advertisement. A coin has two sides.On the positive side,emotional appeals may respond to a consumer’s real concerns.If consumers consider the quality of the products or services as well as the message [messages] in the ads,they will benefit from the advertising.To sum up, each consumer must evaluate her or his own situation.Are the benefits of the product important enough to justify buying it?Advertising is intended to appeal to consumers ,but it does not force them to buy the product.Sometimes the purpose of the advertisment is to mislead the consumers.So in a word,consumers still have to contrlo [control] the final buying decision.
