释义

Writing 11

When it comes to the paragraph 19, I look up “defend” in the dictionary which means to protect someone or something against attack or criticism. Why did the author use the different tense one sentence “now, I do not intend to defend myself—I was showing off……”? It is my understanding that it is a comparison between now and past. The author emphasized that she had shown off. Do you know the meaning of “the slightest bit”? As to the main idea in this paragraph, it means at all.

I think the author is sure to a Real Live Poet, because she wrote in richly poetic language. She used sequentially three words, “golden, glowing, glorious”, standing with “G”. There is a alliteration as the poem. Why did the author apply these three words? Did she want to show off? The answer is “No”. In my view, the author used these words in order to explain the thing is worth exulting, in fact, she intends to restrain her unreasonable showing off.

Form the paragraph 19 to the paragraph 22; it mentioned “exulting” four times. Whether is “exulting” is equal to “showing off”? The word “exult” means to express great pleasure or happiness, especially at someone else's defeat or failure. It is a positive word. Admittedly, “exulting” is not equal to “show off”, and the action of exulting is acceptable for us.

Afterwards, in 20th paragraph, it mentioned the interesting thing that the husband fries his wife an egg; especially he does a tap dance when he carries it from the kitchen to the table. If the author did not write he dose a tap dance and to directly carry it to the table. What would have happened or what is the different feeling for us? Maybe it cannot express strongly exulting of the husband and introduce well “the greatest fried egg” to display the great love of couple.
