释义 | When it comes to the paragraph 19 to 22, the author mainly illustrates three examples of showoffs in order to tell us what exultancy is. Why does the author use different tenses in one sentence “now, I do not intend to defend myself—I was showing off……”? There is a comparison between now and past. The author uses three words, “golden, glowing, glorious”, starting with “G”. Why does the author apply these three words? Is this a kind of show off? The answer is not. For the discussion of my classmates, the author used usesthese words in order to emphasize that this thing is worth to exulte exulting. In these four paragraphs she mentioned “exulting” four times. What is does the word “exulting” meaningmean ?The word “exult” means “to show or feel very happy and proud, especially as the result of a success”. It is a positive word and the action of exulting is acceptable. The paragraph 20 bewildered me. It was a long sentence, I couldn’t understand at once. When I read it three times I understand it suddenly. So a wonderful feeling! The paragraph says an old lady who shows off her first grandson to all her friends. This is acceptable. This type of showing off should be acceptable and forgiven. It is not so bad. |
