| 释义 | Today, I read the para.9.In the first sentence,the word “bunch” puzzles me.I look it up in the dictionary of Longman.There are some meanings of “bunch”,like:group of tings,large amount,etc.But I think the meaning of “group of people” is the proper meaning of the word in this article.Go on, “outshine”,I don’t know the meaning of this,in the dictionary,it means “to be better or more impressive than someone or something else”.I get it.There is another sentence which defines the “competitive showoffs”attracte me :Competitive showoffs are people who reside in a permanent state of rivalry.I don’t understand the meaning of “rivalry”,after looking up in the dictionary,it has the same meaning as “competition”.And then,the author take an example about two women showoff their children. It’s probably easy for us to understand why too much competition is a bad thing,especially for the showoff.Look back the paragraph9 ,in this section,author mostly write about the competition showoffs.I think it is a behavior of bunch.Only among a lot of people,can they compete with each other. |
