释义 | From para.19 to 22, the author illustrated three examples of showoffs in order to tell us exultancy. The word “exult” means to show or feel very happy and proud, especially as the result of a success. It regards as a permissible form of showing off because it is a gold, glowing, glorious thing. The para.20 bewildered me. It was a long sentence, I couldn’t understand at once. I paid attention to the subordinate clause, is the sentence “when he fries me an egg” or “when he fries me an egg and practically does a tap dance?’’ By the way, this sentence also had an apposition. The para.21 narrated a lovely lady who showed off her first grandson to all her friends. The infant was the most gorgeous baby in her eyesight. This sentence modified how happy the old lady felt. And the author made an assumption in para.22. Compared with me, exulting is what I do when I can’t help restraining myself if I smile and talk to my friends---- as I get 6.5 point in IELTS’ test----“Is me clever? Is me a good learner? Is me the most hard studying girl you ever meet? So in my view, this type of showing off should be acceptable and forgiven as it is nice rather than narcissistic. well done! |
