能源与动力工程学院（原流体动力与控制学院）的前身是1954年成立于哈尔滨工业大学的我国高校的第一个水力机械专业。1961年，该专业迁至富拉尔基哈工大分校东北重型机械学院（现已迁至秦皇岛，改名为燕山大学）。1965年整个专业随所在系全建制迁至甘肃工业大学。
历经半个世纪多的风雨历程，先后为本院专业发展执鞭从教、挥洒汗水的教师百余人，造就了一大批本行业的名师、专家，培养了6700余名遍布祖国经济建设各行各业的合格人才，其中有一大批成为高级学者、专家、教授和领导。
学院现设热能与动力工程（流体机械及工程方向、流体传动与控制方向）、水利水电工程、测控技术与仪器、风能与动力工程四个本科个科专业；拥有一级学科博士点1个：动力工程及工程热物理，7个二级学科博士点：流体机械及工程、动力机械及工程、工程热物理、热能工程、机械电子工程、化工过程机械、制冷及低温工程； 1个一级学科硕士点：动力工程及工程热物理，以流体机械及工程、机械电子工程、流体力学、水利水电工程、动力机械及工程、热能工程、工程热物理、化工过程机械、制冷及低温工程9个二级学科硕士点，2个工程硕士点：动力工程、水利工程以及高校教师在职硕士点：流体机械及工程、机械电子工程；涵盖了人才培养的各个层次，涉及5个一级学科门类（能源动力、机械、水利工程、仪器仪表、力学）。流体机械及工程和液压传动与控制学科是甘肃省的重点学科和全国高等学校专业教学指导委员会成员单位，参加了全国本行业的几乎所有的学术团体和行业组织。2007年流体机械及工程、流体传动与控制学科联合成功申报教育部高等学校特色专业建设点——热能与动力工程专业。先后编著专业学科教材47部，完成各类科研项目240余项， 公开发表论文700多篇。
目前，能源与动力工程学院全体师生朝气蓬勃、开拓进取，以学科建设为龙头、以人才培养为中心、以博士点建设为标志、以硕士研究生培养为支撑、以本科教育为基础，已成为高质量人才培养和高水平研究成果开发的教学研究实体。
学院现有教职工75人。其中教授12人，副教授16人，讲师18人，初级及未定职28人（含新引进的博士、硕士）。具有硕士以上学位的教师占49.2%。研究生指导教师20余人。
学院现有实验中心一个，由流体力学实验室、流体机械及工程实验室、流体传动与控制实验室、水利水电工程实验室、测控技术与仪器实验室、新能源实验室组成。设有一个CFD实验室，一组计算机工作站。
在校全日制本科生2600余人，研究生350余人。
In 1954, the year The predecessor of School of Energy and Power Engineering，Lanzhou University of Technology(LUT),was founded, which is the first hydraulic machinery Specialty，It has brought up a large number of masters in the industry, experts, and trained more than 8,700 scientific and technical personnel for of the Country's developments, including a large number of senior scholars, experts, professors and leaders.
There are more than 71 faculty members and staff, including one academician, among whom there are 12 professors (including 6Ph.D. supervisors), and 23 associate professors (all of whom are Master students supervisor). Nowadays, there are more than 350 master & Ph. D students and 2600 undergraduate students who are currently studying in the school.
Currently the School Sets up 4 specialties for 4-year undergraduates: Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Measuring Technology and Instrument，Wind Energy and Power Engineering. namely, Thermal Energy and Power Engineering is the state feature specialties and have two departments: department of Liquid Mechanical Engineering and department of fluid transmit and Control, which are Gansu Provincial Key Disciplines and have become the most powerful specialty. and they are National Steering Committee for Higher Professional Education members. In addition Wind Power Engineering is one of the few experimental college subjects not included in this catalog.
It is entitled to 1 primary discipline doctoral programs( thermal power engineering and engineering physics),7 subordinate discipline doctoral programs(Chemical Process Machinery, Low Temperature and Refrigeration Engineering, Thermal Energy Engineering, Power Mechanical Engineering, Liquid Mechanical Engineering, Heat Physics Engineering, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering), 1 primary discipline master programs( thermal power engineering and engineering physics), 9 subordinate discipline master programs(Chemical Process Machinery, Low Temperature and Refrigeration Engineering, Thermal Energy Engineering, Power Mechanical Engineering, Liquid Mechanical Engineering, Heat Physics Engineering, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Fluid Mechanics). In addition, it is authorized to confer master degree of engineering in 2 subjects(Hydraulic Engineering and Power Mechanical Engineering) and master degree for university teachers who study in service (Mechanical and Electronic Engineering，Liquid Mechanical Engineering). Additional, subordinate discipline master of Liquid Mechanical Engineering is the first one in LUT. the School's disciplines Involve five primary disciplines (energy and power, mechanical, hydraulic, instrumentation, mechanical)
It has an experimental Center, which began in the 1970s, including fluid mechanics laboratory ,Liquid Mechanical Engineering laboratory, fluid transmit and Control Laboratory, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering Laboratory, Measuring Technology and Instrument Laboratory, new energy laboratories. CFD laboratory , workstation computing Center.
