James Michael Tyler，中文译名为詹姆斯.迈克尔.泰勒，1962年5月28日出生在美国的威诺纳，密西西比州。看《Friends》的观众们基本上都认识这个最佳第七人（有争议，因为第七人的人选还有詹妮丝和莫妮卡和罗斯的父母-the Geller 夫妇）。

迈克尔是他们家中五个小孩最年轻的那位，他的父母一个是退役的美国空军的上尉，一个是家庭主妇。

在他11岁的时候，父母去世，于是他搬到了卡罗莱纳州的南部，和他姐姐一起生活。迈克尔是毕业于克莱姆森大学，和Friends剧中的Ross一样，他主修的专业是地理学。1988年，也就是他26岁的时候，他成为了“fat man and little boy"的制作助理，然后不久他就做了电影编辑（初学+助理的角色吧）。

他出演的第一部电影叫做The Disturbance at Dinner（晚宴的插曲）。

第一部电视剧就是红遍全球的NBC的情景幽默喜剧《Friends》了。从1994到2004，236集的Friends他一共在其中的131集里面出现过。说他是最佳第七人一点都不为过。这个从一开始只是作为剧中背景的人物在第一季开始出现，群众演员中只有他会使用cappuccino咖啡机，到了第二季第九集 Phoebe's Dad 那一集，他才有了第一句对白“Yes”，于是剧作者们才给他起了个名字--阿甘（译名还有甘德，甘瑟）。
