He joined Zhejiang University in 1992, was as a postdoctoral research fellow in Physics Department in 1992, promoted to Associate professor in 1994, and then to full professor in 1998. He received a PhD and M.Sc in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 1992 and 1987 respectively and a B. Sc in Jinan University (Shandong Institute of Building Materials) in 1982 Jinan China. From 1998 to 1999, He was a visiting scholar at University of Aveiro Portugal. His primary research areas are synthesis and processing of ceramic thin and thick films, electronic ceramic and magnetic films, semiconductor thin films and their applications, optic, electric and magnetic sensitive thin and thick films, a number of functional composite thin and thick films, development of smart materials and systems. He is teaching the 2nd year "Essential of Materials Science", the 3rd year "Materials Crystal Chemistry", and graduate course "Essential of Non-crystalline Materials". He received a first grade Provincial Award of the advancement of Science and Technology for his achievement in the research areas. He has authored over 100 publications, written a book, Essential of Materials Science and has seven China patents issued. He is a member of Chinese Ceramic Society, a member of Chinese Vacuum Society and a member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
