Founded in April, 1995, CNIC is a research-supporting service institution evolved in the course of building up China Science and Technology Network (CSTNet) and Scientific Database. CSTNet, the earliest-Internet-connected network in China, is a nationwide network for the scientific and technical community, relevant government departments and hi-tech enterprises with a wide coverage of most provinces, cities and autonomous regions across the country and 1 million end-users. CSTNet has a bandwidth of 310M international channel linking the global Internet. The Scientific Database is the major scientific and technological information resources on the CSTNet with a total data volume of several TB. The website "China Popular Science Exhibition", based on the Scientific Database, has become the most welcomed website on popular science in China with the largest average page view count. And its mirror sites have been set up in Taiwan, US and North Europe respectively. Supercomputing environment is composed of four supercomputers, a number of servers and their peripherals. Supercomputers include a US SGI Power Challenge XL with the capacity of 6.4G FLOPS, a Japanese Hitachi SR2201 with the capacity of 9.6 G FLOPS, a domestic-made supercomputers Dawning 2000-II with the capacity of 117G FLOPS and a domestic-made supercomputers Legend (recently renamed Lenovo) Shengteng 6800 with the capacity of 4000G FLOPS. CNIC is also in charge of the operation and management of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). CNIC has undertaken several major research and engineering projects and won the 2nd and 3rd prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and the special, 1st and 2nd prizes of the Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, the major tasks for CNIC include: operation and management of CSTNet, R&D of the next generation Internet technologies and applications, operation and technical development of Scientific Database system, operation, management and application of the supercomputer system, operation and services of management information system, operation and management of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), and furthermore, CNIC is also the lead unit to implement the CAS informatization construction projects for the “10th Five-year Plan” period. In recent years, CNIC has conducted extensive and friendly international co-operations and academic exchanges with a lot of countries and regions such as US, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and HK. CNIC now has 170 formal employees, of whom one third are M.S. above holders. CNIC is also an educational institution, approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council to cultivate master- and doctor-degree graduate students. In January, 2002, CNIC entered the Knowledge Innovation Program of CAS. ARP信息资源中心（原管理信息服务中心）承担中国科学院办公自动化和管理信息系统的建设、运行和技术支撑服务，为中国科学院院级领导及院机关各部门提供及时有效的系统管理和信息服务。从事研究开发基于计算机网络系统平台的政府、企业办公自动化系统；从事科研管理信息资源建设，开发服务于科研和管理的数据库系统；从事信息标准化研究，包括：信息代码、指标体系、系统平台等标准的研究。 科技成果1.《科学数据库及其信息系统》1997年中国科学院科技进步一等奖，1998年国家科技进步二等奖 2.《中关村地区教育与科研示范网主干网》1998年中国科学院科技进步特等奖，1999年国家科技进步三等奖 3.《计算机网络安全关键技术研究与产品开发》1999年中国科学院科技进步一等奖，2000年国家科技进步二等奖 4. 中国高速互联研究试验网：2002年北京市科技进步二等奖； 人员结构中心现有员工总数450多人，平均年龄31岁，女员工占34.45%；在学历分布上，研究生学历占48.99%，大学大专学历占48.54%；在读硕士研究生108人、博士研究生22人。 人才培养中国科学院计算机网络信息中心是经国务院批准有硕士学位授予权的单位，并与中国科学院计算技术研究所联合招收博士研究生。 中国科学院计算机网络信息中心现有博士生导师4名，硕士生导师5名。近年来，招收和培养计算机网络、多媒体通信技术、网络性能分析、网络信息发布技术、高性能网络计算等研究方向的博士研究生30名，硕士研究生70名，为我国高技术人才培养做出了贡献。 国际合作中国科学院计算机网络信息中心积极开展国际科技交流活动，近年来与美国、日本、韩国等多国,以及大陆、台湾、香港等地区建立了多项广泛友好的项目合作与学术研究交流。 ——成功地主办了“中国Internet开通5周年庆典暨网络技术研讨会”和“2000年中美高级网络技术研讨会”等大型国际会议，美国Internet之父Vinton G.
