戴安娜出生于伦敦，在她8岁的时候，尽管她的阅读障碍太严重，但她还是认为自己能成为一个作家，并且从她12岁开始写起小说。在她的家中，几乎没有供孩子阅读的书，所以戴安娜就亲自给自己和自己的两个妹妹写书。她在开始全职写作前，在牛津郡的圣安妮学院获得了文学学士（Bachelor of Arts degree）的证书。

她的小说获得过许多奖项。Howl's Moving Castle被宫崎骏改编，成为有名的同名动漫电影<哈尔的移动城堡>

她现在和她的中世纪研究学家丈夫居住在英格兰布里斯托的J.A Burrow，他们有三个已经成年的儿子和5个孙子孙女。
