Canterbury Station

Canterbury is a CityRail railway station on Sydney's Bankstown line. Located in the suburb of Canterbury, it serves a residential area. Canterbury Park Racecourse is adjacent, and a branch line formerly led to sidings used on race-days (now demolished). It has three platforms, only two of which are now used. One of the platforms faces one of the two goods lines that pass through Canterbury- part of the Metropolitan Goods Line.

History

The station opened on 1 February 1895 as part of the Sydenham- Belmore railway line.

Platforms/Service

The station is served by four trains an hour, in each direction, on weekdays. On weekends it is serviced by two trains an hour.

Platform 1:

Bankstown Line - all stations services to Central and the City Circle.

Platform 2:

Bankstown Line - all stations services to Lidcombe or Liverpool via Bankstown.

Accessibility

The station has street access to both platforms via stairs. This does not allow for Easy Access for wheelchairs.

Sydney Buses runs six routes via Canterbury station:

Route 428 - to Circular Quay.

Route L28 - Weekdays(Monday to Friday) peak hour limited stops services - to Circular Quay.

Route 445 - to Balmain.

Route 471 - Between Rockdale station and Five Dock.

Route 472 - Between Rockdale station and Five Dock.

Route 487 - to Bankstown station.

NightRide runs one route via Canterbury railway station:

Route N40 - Between East Hills station and City(Town Hall).
