斯特拉文斯基对俄国狂野春天的迅速开展印象深刻，加上「异教仪式让祭品处女狂舞至死」的意象，谱写了舞剧《春之祭》，由尼金斯基编舞，首演时的骚动，据说早在经纪人戴吉列夫预料之中。《普钦奈拉》也是芭蕾舞剧，故事叙述普钦奈拉太有女人缘，镇上其余男士要「扁」他，他与友人交换身份，友人被「扁」装死，他化装成术士将之救活，并且一一分配因缘，将最美的女人留给自己。斯特拉文斯基将裴高雷西的素材，重新谱曲，旋律优美，为史氏「新古典」时期的开端。
