Richard Sanderson，1953年3月5日生于英国塔普罗（Taplow），父亲是苏格兰人，鼓手，母亲是法国人，手风琴手。家庭背景对Richard Sanderson有着深厚的影响，他小时候就因此爱上了音乐。

在Richard Sanderson还是5岁的时候，就开始用钢琴演奏古典音乐。15岁时，开始学弹吉他，两年后，成为当地一支摇滚乐队的口琴乐手。3年后，他成为了Nancy Hollaway and David Christie的正式钢琴手。21岁时，他就拥有自己的乐队，并且在世界各地最棒的酒店演奏。后来，他到了美国，在柏克莱大学音乐学院学习和声和弦乐的同时，在不同的乐队里演奏音乐。

25岁时，Richard Sanderson回到英国，并受雇于一所著名的录音室，在这里，他遇上了著名的电影编曲人Vladimir Cosma，并被选唱电影法国女星苏菲玛素主演的《《La Boum》（初吻）里的主题曲《Reality》。这首歌成为15个国家的冠军歌曲，并在欧洲和亚洲售卖了800万张。之后，推出了其他成功的单曲，如《She’s A Lady》、《Your Eyes》、《When The Night Comes》，等等。

Richard Sanderson35岁开始学习电影配乐，成为正式的电影编曲人。目前和妻子和3个女儿住在靠近巴黎的地方。
