| 释义 | 32 In paragraph 4, the word “whole” attracts me. What does “whole” here refer to? My mind is filled with question marks. I continue reading with my doubt. I find the author talks about what workers want to know. It seems that the word “whole” means not only the whole company but also corporate culture. In my opinion, when “whole” stands for a complete company, workers consider themselves as significant section of that collectiveness. They can’t help having the curiosity to know how they will influence others or all the company. On the other hand, when “whole” represents “corporate culture”, workers try their best to mix together with company culture. They absorb corporate culture enthusiastically as their new believes. At the same time, they also create corporate culture by contributing their knowledge. While I am focusing on “corporate culture”, the word “individual” is attractive to me. In that sentence, the subject is “employees”. I think an employee and the individual are exactly in common. Why does the author use two words with the similar meaning here instead of one word? In my view, “employees” here means an array of persons. In other words, an employee refers to an individual. But there are so many employees to contribute to corporate culture, an individual means just a person. What’s more, maybe some of the corporate cultures value an individual who doesn’t contribute to this part of corporate culture. Turing to paragraph 5, the phrase “constant push” appeals to me. I suddenly recall the word “challenge” that appears in paragraph 3. It pushes me to suppose that “constant push” here refers to too much challenge. When “push” is constant, workers will feel always under pressure. This situation will lead to boredom and lowered satisfaction. The pressure is so large that workers can’t afford. In order to avoid working pressure, they begin to seek employment somewhere else. I think this sentence not only makes a conclusion on former sentences but draws forth an example of Compaq Computer as well. |
