词条 | showing off 1-6 |
释义 | Before I start reading the article, I am attracted by the title with a doubtful expression. I looked up the phrase(应该是look the phrase up)“show off”in the dictionary. Then I begin to explain its meaning. For my part, “show off” means a man who feel proud of his or her accomplishment, the man will use any way to hint in order to win the praise. Afterwards, the situation moves to a party. I find two reasonable adjectives which is used to describe the excited woman, one is “suffering ”, the other is “throbbing ”. both of them can be used as two verbs without “ing”. Writer uses a word “indeed”to make a further mood description. In my opinion, I can use “of course, furthermore, moreover ”instead. But three difficult and strange words puzzled me in paragraph 3. they are “angst, Kierkegaard , and epistemology ”. After I consult with dictionary, I find angst means anxious, epistemology is a way of consideration objects in philosophy. Unfortunately, that is not easy job to find the meaning of Kierkegaard. After that, I face a uncertain word indicated “resident expert”. Resident means living in a place, expert means a man who is good at doing something in a domain. But writer puts them together, is the meaning“a expert who always attend the party”? I read the whole sentence. I feel I understand a bit. The man is good at tasting wine, because he can push a perfectly good French wine way(应该是away) easily. The last two paragraphs indicates(复数indicate) how we showing off in our daily life. That seems all of us cannot avoid getting ride of this behaviors or abilities. Is there exists a level to measure which extent can be defined as a showing off act. I am worried about that because I also did something in the same way. Am I showing off? Am I a peacockish girl? |
