释义 | The article illustrates that to create the necessary illusion of superiority; six basic techniques are frequently used in paragraph 9 to 15. The author explains namely, the weasel claim, the “water is wet” claim, the “so what” claim, the scientific or statistic claim, the “compliment the consumer” claim, the rhetorical question. The ads claim is soul in an advertisement, it lead to advertisement will be good or not. A successful advertisement will be remembered by people. Firstly, the weasel claim is a boring type. Actually, the advertising claim tells nothing. It just interview product’s common character what all of us know. When I read this paragraph, I didn’t found any problem, but I was still puzzled. People know the weasel claim almost contradicts the claim that is made, so why advertising agent still use it, it is no doubt that the weasel claim cannot attract custom. The next is the “water is wet” claim. It also has not advantage over the competition. It just reveals the fact that the common of this product category. And then, the “so what” claims is abstract, I can not understand it completely. My view is that the product increases of quantity, but whether it improves quality, we can not know. When it comes to the scientific or statistical claim. Use a common expression; it just adds specific numbers to the advertising claim. I don’t think these data are true, but it really leads to people believe the product. When I read the first sentence in this paragraph, I found a phrase which it confused me. “Sounds impressive” I don’t think that it can explain “nice voice”. The “compliment the consumer” claim is easy to comprehend. It seems to you are perfect,if you use this product. And you have nice taste, because you choose. The last is the rhetorical question, but this kind of technique is not useful in my part. To put all into one nutshell this part section is not very difficult. When I finished reading the essay, I can not believe the ads any more. It is unwise of you to buy products just because you see them advertised on TV or anywhere else. However, ads may cheat you while it can be used as a source of information if you want to buy expensive items like computers or cars. We can make the best use of ads by being critical. We should able to detect lies or exaggerated claims. If we understand how adv works, we are less likely to be fooled. |
