| 释义 | In paragraph 19, the author uses two “know” to tell us that the woman was showing off. He wants to impress that most people would be triumph into the conversation on that lucky time. But the woman does not do as most of the people done. She cares about other people‘s achievements but not hers. It shocked me that the author admires that she is a showoff too. I do not know if all of the showoffs can feel when they show off. She was once eager to be known and praised by others. So she knows a lot in this aspect. That everyone can’t avoid to be showing off. This point of showoffs sometimes is nice as our hard work is admired by others. I spent a lot of time to understand some new words and phrases. According to the context, I guessed maybe “triumph” is a synonym closed to success. And the phrase “worked our triumph into the conversation” confused me. I know “work into” is a fixed structure. But what is the meaning of this phrase? After looking up(in) dictionary, I know what the trump mean. Then one phrases dump into my eyes. How to understand “local and long distance”? I study the whole paragraph. I guess it means the people---the author’s friends--- who lived in local and long distance. |
