李鲁远博士，南开大学特聘教授，博士生导师，国家重点基础研究发展计划（973计划）首席科学家。1982年毕业于四川大学，生物化学学士。1988年毕业于美国康乃尔大学，生物化学博士。1988—1991年美国宾西法尼亚州立大学博士后研究员。1991—1995年美国Cyanamid公司医学部高级研究员。1995—2002年美国乔治城大学医学院分子生化系和肿瘤学系助理教授，Lombardi肿瘤中心研究员。2002—2008年美国匹兹堡大学医学院病理系副教授，UPCI肿瘤研究院研究员，McGowan再生医学研究院研究员。李鲁远对生物学、医学的主要贡献包括：1）发现人类内皮细胞生长抑制因子VEGI（TNFSF15）并揭示其功能；2）通过对促血管生长素Angiopoietin-1的研究，在2000年首先提出“利用血管平滑肌细胞稳定肿瘤血管可以抑制肿瘤生长”的假说，已被肿瘤学界普遍接受；3）揭示人类长菱基因族RHBDF1基因对癌基因上皮生长因子受体EGFR活化的关键作用。李鲁远在生物化学、肿瘤生物学、血管生物学、免疫学等领域的主要科学杂志上发表论文30余篇，专利多项。
