【内容简介】

电影以南澳Adelaide市郊的普通人为背景﹐女主角是没名气的画家﹐目击了一个男子被火车撞毙的情形﹐男主角是报馆的摄影师﹐和负责采访的男配角记者被派到场拍摄情况。男主角刚刚发现患上癌症﹐女主角则是刚刚奔了父丧﹐两位主角都要各自面对死亡的威胁﹐而别人的死亡却把他们拉在一起﹔男配角则刚刚发现当助产士的女友意外怀孕﹐因为与性格不合的前妻当年也是奉子成婚﹐他竟然摆出一副冷淡态度对待女友﹐与主角一样﹐配角的一对同样要面对威胁﹐不过却是来自新生命的威胁。

当然﹐生与死的问题不是容易解决的﹐但如果细心看﹐细心经历﹐也许能够明白和参透。

原来 Look BothWays是如此﹐要将生命的两端看清楚﹐而也与交通意外现场的路牌语带双关。把男女主角连在一起的那个被撞毙男子是自杀﹐还是一场意外呢﹖如果是自杀﹐lookboth ways 之后还要冲过路轨﹐而如果是意外的话﹐他的死﹐就是没有 look both ways 的后果。

电影枝叶也很丰富﹐报馆编辑与女儿的冷淡关系﹐火车司机的无限自责﹐死亡男子妻子的悲痛﹐众人的映衬令到影片的人物很立体。值得一提的是﹐男女主角都各自有不同的flashback镜头﹐代表了他们脑海的思维﹐目睹意外后﹐女主角不断想像她身处环境中可能发生的各种意外﹐出轨﹑失事﹑地陷﹑鲨鱼﹑洪水﹑崩塌﹐每一次都以她画家的笔触画出来﹐表达了她的极度不安。男主角却不断忆起他已逝父亲在病榻中的痛苦﹐在他自己的绝症阴影里回响。

和 Little Fish 不同﹐Look Both Ways 看完有一种正面的馀韵﹐就像鱼肚白的天空﹐黎明将至的那种感觉。

The film was supported by the AdelaideFilm Festival fund and opened the 2005 festival. The film was selectedas a film text by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority forthe VCE English Course from 2007 to 2010.

Plot

The film charts the stories of several people over a hot summerweekend in Adelaide. Photojournalist Nick (William McInnes)(based onthe fictional character Chris Vassilopoulos) discovers he hastesticularcancer that has spread to his lungs. On his way home he goesto the siteof a train accident to report on it, and meets Meryl (Justine Clarke)anemotionally vulnerable artist, who has witnessed a man get run overby atrain. Over the course of the weekend, their relationshipdevelopssexually as another chance encounter allows them to discovermore abouteach other; the two gradually allow themselves to let go oftheir fearsand form a meaningful relationship.

Meanwhile, Nick'scolleague, Andy Walker, has to deal with the newsthat his estrangedgirlfriend, Anna, is pregnant, made more difficultbecause neither ofthem really wanted or planned for a baby. Andy alsohas to cope with hisex-wife, who doesn't trust his ability to takegood care of his twochildren. The lives of Julia (the partner of theman run over by thetrain) and the driver of the train are explored:Both characters areshown going through the seven stages of grief. Thetrain driver bridgesthe gap with his estranged teenage son during thecourse of the movie.The rain at the end of the film symbolizes relief.
