阮明智出生于越南，8岁的时候他离开了越南，尽管还不知道自己的未来在那里，但是自幼浸淫于香港电影的他已经立志成为一名功夫演员，很快他就开始习武，他练功的时候十分刻苦，每天都要练习十个小时以上并从不间断，现在他已经有了18年的武龄，精通截拳道，... [更多]泰拳和空手道，同时也是一名中国传统武术高手。他曾在各种格斗比赛中获奖，这其中包括全美格斗比赛的金奖。他还加入了美国国家武术队。他的精湛武艺也引起了好莱坞的注意，阮明智顺理成章的成为了一名动作演员，他的第一部作品是2003年的《死亡鬼屋2》，这部影片根据世嘉公司的著名枪战游戏改编，场面十分刺激火爆。阮明智的身手也得以充分的展现。阮明智还是很受欢迎的格斗秀节目《麦可的极限格斗》(Mike Chat's Extreme Martial Arts)中的常客，经常在其中表演武器、格斗以及特技等。2005年，阮明智和如日中天的泰国功夫巨星托尼·贾的新片《冬荫功》中出演反面角色，并有和托尼·贾的精彩对战场面，影片的大获成功似乎也预示着阮明智的电影之路将越来越开阔。
