最早接触Charles Lloyd是从一个朋友他老爸的打口CD中淘来的The Water is Wide，感觉这种钢琴类似某个电影中的片断，爱极了这种电影的片断感觉，每当走在学校的大路上，听着这张唱片，感觉这是我所经历的生活。从此，每天早上起来，面对阳光，音箱中缓缓流出这种声音，让人时时刻刻都在感受这种生活。或许当你站在舞台，拿起BASS，慢慢的演奏，你会感到你在他们中间，你是他们的一员。

Charles Lloyd，出生于1938/03/15 田纳西州。最早时在家乡Memphis 演奏，50年代中期来到洛杉矶市，在洛杉矶市六年的时间在Gerald Wilson的大乐团演出。1961年他加入鼓手Chico Hamilton的五重奏，开始让人注意到他的表现。

Charles Lloyd在南加州大学攻读音乐硕士学位，毕业后在1964-65年之间加入Cannonball Adderley的六重奏。 1966年他带领一个四重奏，团员有Keith Jarrett、Cecil McBee与Jack DeJohnette，这些团员当时都是很年轻的，现在都是巨星级的角色，他们曾到欧洲演出六次之多，非常受欢迎。1969年之后一段时间，演出的部分减少，而转投入教音乐的工作。80年代初期与法国裔钢琴手Michel Petrucciani有很积极的合作，他们在重要的Montreux爵士乐节演出。80年代晚期，带领新的乐团，成员有钢琴手Bobo Stenson、贝斯手Palle Danielsson与鼓手Jon Christensen，他们的专辑可在ECM唱片中找到。

在JAZZ的萨克斯风里，Charles Lloyd音乐创作的巧思是他所擅长的，浓郁的“香醇”的音色，若没有经过岁月的洗礼，是不可能的。“Dancing Waters, Big Sur to Bahia”使用Bossa Nova的节奏，犹如Stan Getz的那般舒坦。“Bharati”到“Darkness on the Delta Suite”由浅而深,惊喜的像是Coltrane的味道，细细咀嚼那种深沉的忧郁，慵懒浓厚。“Dervish on the Glory B”个人的特色一听无疑，正是集天赋和才气得以扬名至今的原因所在。
