词条 Unit 33rd
释义

In paragraph 6, a phrase “on and off the job” appeals to me. In my opinion, it refers to go to work and back home after finishing work. I could understand that quality life is a common requirement to today’s workers. Resorted to quality life, they would like to enjoy their life and lighten the pressure in proper way. However, why does the author place “on and off the job” in the same location to “quality life” as well? It occurs to me recall a word—commuter. Do workers pay more attention to the vehicle they use or something else to make sure they go to work on time and back home conveniently? I continue reading with my doubts. I find I am misunderstanding. The answer is in the last but two sentences when my attention is drawn by the word “time”. Therefore, I infer that employees take their free time seriously. It is obvious that they want time to deal with personal affairs which are linked to family responsibility and personal interests. As far as I know, there may be a large conflict between working time and personal affairs of employees. Because of this situation, sorts of employees will ask for leave. Companies will make an informal transfer to keep the regular operating of companies if there are only a few employees asking for leave. If there are so many, employees will destroy companies’ planning. As a result, companies make every effort to meet workers’ needs.

In paragraph 7, the phrase “few workers” attracts my awareness. I know “few” here is a denying use. I transform the sentence as following: not many workers expect to say in the same job for their whole life. It seems that employees look for more developing area without discussing in advance. They have appetite for enriching their knowledge and experience and broadening their horizon by means of staying in all walks of life. I think what they desire is to foster sense of adaptability and wider interpersonal, which are extremely crucial to advance their career in future.
