释义

Today, there are many advertisings in our live and surrounding. However, there are many

people dout the advertisings. They think that the advertising are deceiveing people. We

should not trust the advertisings. They believe that advertising is childish, dumb, a bunch

of lies, and influences only the masses of the less sophisticated. But another people think

advertising can not affect their life. The advertisig are not wrong and bad. Advertisers

know better and clearly. They believe that a well-designed advertising campaign has dramatic

effects. It affects people's life and feelig gradually.

Then, let us talk about advertising claims.  "advertising claims" is the verbal or print of

an ad that makes some assertion of superiority for the product being advertised. But some

advertising claims are not truth and falsehood. We can not defent the goods and advertising

claims. There are so many false information of advertising claims. The second rule of

advertising-claim analysis is simply that if any product is truly superior, the ad will say

so very clearly and will offer some kind of convincing evidence of the superiority.

At last, I explain some words and sentences. In the second passage, there is a word

-"belittle". It means "to cause to seem small or unimportant; disaparage; to cause to seem

less than another or little". For examples: The press gave the election no publicity and

belittled its significance; A poor but honest man is not to be belittled; The size of the

office tower belittles the surrounding buildings. In the fourth passage, there is a word

-"downright". It means "thorough; plain; direct; thoroughly; absolutely". For examples; You

are a downright cheat; He is a downright kind of man who says just what he thinks; He was

downright rude to me. In the sixth passage, there is a word-"parity". It means "equality;

the condition of being equal". For examples: The two currencies have now reached parity;

Women workers at the factory went on strike for parity.

In the second passage, there is a difficult sentence-"Ads are designed to have an effect

while being laughed at, belittled, and all but ignored." At the begin, I can not understand

it clearly. Though the books and dictionary, I can understand it deeply. It means "Ads are

designed to in fluence people though they are laughed at, belittled, and all but ignored."
