释义 | When it comes to paragraph ten and paragraph eleven, I find there are many new words and sentences,[delete] which I am not very familiar. In paragraph ten, the word “brother” attracts me. Literally, it means cause trouble to; while in this sentence, it refers to someone do not want to do something. Compared with competitive showoffs, the narcissistic showoffs do not want to compete with others. In the following text , the sentence “……,and they’ll even go stand on their head if attention should flag” puzzles me. Although, there are no difficult words in this sentence, I still cannot understand the meaning of the sentence. Based on analyzing the structure of this sentence, I think I get some points. Here the word “flag” is a verb, which means decline in energy, activity, interest,[delete] and so on. I think the phrase “stand on their head” is a difficult point. Generally, we stand on our feet in our normal life. While the author uses “stand on their head”. It is strange. I think the author uses this exaggeration to express that the narcissistic showoffs can do any absurd actions to attract others’ attention when people shift their eyes from them. In paragraph eleven, there is a conversation between the author and the narcissistic showoffs. Here are two new words, which I have not seen them before. After I look them up in the dictionary, I know their meanings. The word “brood” here means think quietly and deeply about, especially something that makes one unhappy. While the word “superficial” means concerned with or comprehending only what is apparent or obvious, shallow. Through this conversation, we can see that the narcissistic showoffs always want to be the center of attention. They cannot accept that people ignore them. To some degree, I agree to the author’s opinion that this kinds[kind] of person are[is] never nice, they may make us feel offensive. |
