释义

In paragraph(Paragraph) 23, it shows the conclusion of exulting. In the first sentence, the author uses a word which is(---) ‘shamelessly’, (and) it is an adverb which means ‘without shame, not modestly’. The author shows that exulting is just telling people about our talents or triumphs without shame. Then, the author sets an example---I’m taking a  finishing(finish) my speech or presentation, I will take a bow. It is a hint that I call for your cheers and want to receive some recognition and applause. Then, the author gives four ‘I think if’, and each sentence has a ‘( )’ which including(contains) an example. She thinks this kind of showoffs is forgivable or acceptable if they don’t overdo it or they know when to quit or they don’t get addicted or they’re able to walk off the stage.

The first example shows the author stops the strangers to say(saying) that(that省去) she has been published which is overdoing. It will make the strangers unhappy, the strangers who just want to know the time or directions(, in that strangers who just want to know the time or directions feels unhappy ), maybe they must(have to) deal with some important things immediately, but they are detained by the author.

In the second example, the author tells us that when we are showing off, we should learn when to quit. When you have talked enough about you(yourself) , you should change a topic, such as ‘let’s talk about you’. If you ask: ‘how about you recently?’---it counts as quitting. If you ask: ‘what do you think about me?’---it doesn’t count as quitting. You should not talk about yourself any more.

In the third example, I can’t understand what the meaning of the word ‘addict’ is. I look it up in (the) dictionary. ‘Addict’ means ‘a person who cannot stop doing or using something, especially something harmful.’ I think the word in(in去了) here means a person who keeps doing something. For example, when the author’s poems (have been) published, she was showing off to every human being in many different ways.

The last example is that we should clap and cheer while others take their bows. It shows we should not only think about ourselves, but also pay more attention to our friends.
