This passage mainly talks the advertising campaigns. When I read the first sentence, I got dim --- what the author would like to express. What the first confused me is the word “advertising”. In according to the grammar, I thought the word behind “to” should be a verb which ran into my mind first. But “advertising” is noun, is it a grammar error? Of course, the answer is no. Perhaps it is my fixed thinking that verb should follow “to”. This explanation I think is the phrase “immunity to”. I remembered this matching pattern appearing in one of the passages we’ve learned.

Due to the confused understanding, I read it again. The word “believers” appeals to me. How to interpret it? Obviously, it relates to the context because it places in the beginning of this paragraph. What proves my thoughts appears the following sentence at once-- the verb “believe”. The people think the advertising is childish and it plays a just minor supporting role during the period of purchasing, so they believe they can immunity to advertising.

Then look though it again. There is a question puzzling me. Why the author uses the “inhabitant” in the second sentence instead of the “people”. The explanation of the words “inhabitants of consumerland” in the ending of the passage refers to the consumer. I don’t know whether it has a special meaning because to a degree, the group he refers to has a bit difference. What is worth to be mentioned is the word “na?ve”, reflecting the attitude of author to the opinions of inhabitants.

When I read the first sentence of the paragraph two “advertisers know better”, I actually can’t understand that why the author uses “better” and who compares with the advertiser. In terms of the following sentences, I know what they compare--- a well-designed advertising campaign has dramatic effects. As to the subject compared, I think it closely relates the former paragraph and it should be inhabitants who have a different opinion with advertisers.

In the paragraph three, I can’t figure out the “adman’s attack”. The explanation in the ending of context is “a vigorous attempt to persuade consumers to buy their products”. It is noticeable that “attack” and “vulnerable” are matching because it describes vividly some people too vulnerable to avoiding the effect even the attack. Then in the second sentence, is the words “delight in” a phrase? So confused, what’s the meaning of “delight in an audience?
